A career-oriented individual is someone who knows where he’s heading, what he’s working for, and how he will win it. If you want to succeed in your career, you better be a kind of person who knows how to make realistic steps and jumpstart that dream.

Here are few career advices to make that seemingly impossible feat close to reality. Dare to have that dream job work to your advantage and not the other way around, check this out:

1.    Figure out what you really want to do. Discover where your true passion lies? What kind of job you would want to pursue and how you can make it come true? These are the questions you should focus on asking yourself. It is important that you keep your answers clear and specific. This way, there’s no room for confusions, ifs, and buts.

2.    Determine the cash flow. Be realistic and practical. You’re working because you want to earn money and finding an excellent and high-paying job is your key to realize that career goal or purpose. Interview Success: Addressing your strengths & Weaknesses

July 3rd, 2009

Being able to Interview well is an invaluable skill. One of the questions that will always come out in an Interview in one form or another is “what are you’re strengths and weaknesses”. To ensure your Interview success you need to be able to answer this questions well and in a way that lets the employer know you have the experience skills and attitude they are looking for.

Before we can answer this question in an effective way we first need to know what the employer is looking for in terms of skills and experience. I believe the best way to approach this is to ask yourself the following questions:

What skills do I have that can help the employer reach their goals?

How are my life and work experiences going to be of use to this company?

What traits do I possess that the employer will see as a positive?

Now we know the answer to these questions you are well on your way to improving your Interview technique which will improve you Interview success.

Now lets start of with the positives, when you are asked what your strengths are it’s not enough to just list the skills, experience and traits you have that will be of use to the employer, you have to elaborate and explain how it can help the employer reach their goals, this one of the main keys to Interviewing well.

For example saying “I have a lot of contacts in the Industry” isn’t enough you need to further elaborate as to how having those contacts can help the employer, whether it’s a case of due to your contacts you know you can increase their sales or lower their production costs. You need to go into explicit detail how your strengths will be of advantage to the employer. That can be the difference between an average Interview and a super Interview.

Lets move on to weaknesses I suggest you name just one and if you are intelligent you can use it to highlight another one of your strengths. I suggest when discussing your weaknesses you say something along the line of “my main weakness is” then go on to name a positive trait such as precision. We then turn this into a slight negative by saying something like “I’m very hot on everything being precise, at times when other peoples part of the project isn’t up to the companies standards I get annoyed.” What you then do is continue by saying its something you’ve learnt to deal with and again highlight the strength which in this case would be precision.

So as an example a full answer to the questions what are your weakness could be “I’m very hot on everything being precise, my main weakness is at times when other peoples part of the project isn’t up to the companies standards I get annoyed. I’ve learnt to deal with this however and as supposed to getting annoyed I channel my energies in to the precision of my part of the project and making sure it’s as good as possible.”

Following these interview technique and you will dramatically improve your Interview success, this little tricks can be the difference between you interviewing well and the interview going not so well.

For Freelance Translators: How to Make Your Clients Use Your Translation Services Again and Again

July 2nd, 2009

The easiest way to keep your translation business profitable is to cultivate a core group of regular clients who will fill your inbox with translation projects, allowing you to spend your time working rather than looking for work. Implementing some of the tips below will help you keep a regular stream of work coming your way.

1. Meet every deadline. If you can’t consistently meet deadlines, you’re not well-suited to being a freelance translator. Remember that your clients have deadlines too, and are sometimes waiting for your work as part of a larger project. As one experienced translator comments, “8:00 means 7:50, not 8:10.”

2. Be easy to reach. Put your contact information in your email signature file, so that a client never has to look up your phone or fax number. Realize that many times, if clients cannot reach you immediately, they will contact another translator. Since over 90% of contacts from clients will be by e-mail, put an auto-responder on your e-mail if you will be out of the office for even a few hours.

3. Follow directions. While it can be time-consuming to follow many different clients’ particular ways of doing things, you will save the client time and money, and thus get more work from them, by following their instructions to the letter. If the client asks you to put your initials in the file name, do it. If the client asks you to put the word “Invoice” in the subject line of the e-mail containing your invoice, do it.

4. Don’t waste your clients’ time. It’s acceptable, and even encouraged to ask questions when you need to clarify something. However, it’s also important to show respect for your clients’ time, and for the fact that yours is probably not the only project they are handling. Keep your e-mails short and to the point, and make your questions clear and easy to answer.

5. Provide referrals. Many translators worry that providing referrals to other translators in the same language combination will lead to less work for themselves, but in fact the opposite seems to be true. Clients like to work with freelancers who solve the clients’ problems, and when you’re too busy and can’t handle their work or are going on vacation, it’s a problem for them. Have the names of two or three translators in your language combination who you really trust, and provide these names to your clients when you aren’t available for work.

6. Be easy to work with. This isn’t to say that you should be a pushover or let clients take advantage of you, but for your regular clients, it’s worth putting in some extra effort. Thank them for giving you their business; be friendly and polite if a payment is unexpectedly late; fill in for them in a pinch when another translator lets them down.

7. Ask for constructive criticism. It’s important to see feedback as part of your quality assurance process, not as an attack on your abilities as a translator. If a client asks for changes in your translation, make them politely and immediately; if you decide later that the changes are unnecessary and you don’t want to work for the client again, it’s another matter. With your regular and trusted clients, periodically ask what you can do to better meet their needs, then implement these changes.

8. Appreciate your clients. Your regular clients are the people who make it possible for you to earn a healthy income while living a flexible and self-directed freelance lifestyle. A small gift at the end of the year is always appreciated when a client has given you regular work.

9. Don’t bicker. If a prospective client offers you a project at a ridiculously low rate, politely decline it, possibly sending them a copy of your standard rate sheet if you have one. Don’t insult them for offering such low pay or make negative comments about their business; just courteously decline to work for them and let them move on to someone else.

10. Charge what you’re worth, and earn it. There will always be another translator out there who is willing to work for one cent per word less than you are, so don’t compete on price alone. Giving your clients a little more effort than necessary proves to them that often, they get the level of service they pay for.

5 Ways to Deal With Mean Bosses

July 2nd, 2009

Bosses are not always the most popular people in life but, you have to deal with them every single day because your livelihood depends on it. Putting up with a mean boss can leave you dry and miserable but, you can go about it a different way to avoid this. You need to reach a point where you master a few things that will remedy your relationship. Your survival depends upon your boss whether you want to admit it or not until you break the contract you have. The following tips can prove to be your key to a better relationship or a better atmosphere in your place of work.

• In my experience with bosses, I have learned not to sail against the current but rather to flow with a direction that will reduce your chances of drowning. This is to say that a mean boss is a person who elicits many emotions. You might be tempted to be the one to save the day by confronting the ‘big man’. This is in many cases a very disappointing decision. The first thing is to be an observer and not a reactor; you want to make it in one piece.

• There is a very thin line between being a hypocrite and an observer. Therefore, you need to decide who you want to be. A hypocrite is a person who totally hates the guts of his boss but gives the opposite signals to the boss. You will have to admit that most of us fall in this category. However, bad-mouthing your boss then pretending to be his best friend will ruin your character; if you have any.

• As you observe things, make sure that you do things as your boss likes them to be done. Some employees have demonized their bosses. Before you label your boss ‘Satan’ it is vital to give them a chance to show their character. Do your work as stipulated and see what the outcome will be. There are so many bosses who are just heaven-sent. They have the ability to recognize a good and dedicated worker and value them. However, a huge chunk of bosses have proved to be opportunistic pigs that would be glad to step on people’s heads.

• Treat deserving bosses with the respect they have earned. If your boss is not deserving of respect, your mandate is to perform your job to the best of your abilities; nobody says that you have to respect them.

• You should never be rude to your boss unless you want to quite. Many times, mean bosses have the power to drive us to the wall. If you are not looking to ruin your stay, always have a good word for your boss. Also, do not join groups of employees that despise the bosses. You might be influenced to do something you had not intended.

With mean bosses, nothing much can be done if you want to keep your job. Therefore, have a positive attitude and do not let his or her negativity influence you. However, if your boss is too much, it is healthy to give him or her, a piece of your mind in a constructive way. This will not guarantee that you still have a job but, it will enable you walk out holding your head up high.

Difficult to choose a career

July 2nd, 2009

Difficult to choose a career

We must admit that none on earth is fully satisfied with his profession, trade, calling and employment and everyone of us is still desiring that he must change the line and join another career.  If we start counting professions, trades, callings and employments , we shall cross figures of thousands and now we can grade people even in one occupation differently and even their status and wages are to be fixed differently.  We have noted that this man wants to attain more efficiency and proficiency in his line and he wants promotions too.  He wants that his earnings must go ahead because in due course everyone of us shall be getting more responsibilities and he shall require more money and a better status and at the same time we note most of us get frustration because they do not attain the desired targets in life.

There were times when people were adopting the same occupation which their elders had been following, but now the people have started to choose as per their qualifications, training and aptitude and we have noted that experts have established their units in the field who are helping the applicants in choosing a right career.  But since we are living in a period of competition, most of the people are not getting a job as per their desires, wishes and as per their aptitudes.  They are forced to join a career or a line which is not acceptable to them and they work in that trade throughout their life.  That is the reason most of the people are not in a position to show their proficiency and efficiency and that is the reason most of us do not get promotions and higher status in life and that is the reason most of us remain frustrated in life.

Even God could not help this man because God Himself has created this man which if full of desires, wishes, targets, likings, aptitudes and that is the reason he is not satisfied with his present lot and is always wishing to go ahead or to change in life.  Therefore, we can say that this man shall never be able to have a line of his choice and he shall remain wishing to change his present lot and if we go deep, all success which this man could achieve throughout the ages, those had been there because this man had never been satisfied with his present lot and always tried to change or to attain a better position in life.  Therefore, we must accept that full satisfaction in life is not in favour of this man and must remain unsatisfied with his life and must try to go ahead.  This is the base of his progress and the man who wants change must be taken as a man with progressive outlook and must be honoured in life.

MRI, CT and ICD: New and Upcoming Nursing Technology

July 1st, 2009

Human error is one of the primary concerns for hospitals and medical clinics. These facilities are always seeking ways to reduce incidences of human error and improve the level and quality of patient care. Fortunately, new developments in nursing technology continue to improve the field of nursing. This new nursing technology simplifies the job of nurses and allows them to serve patients with greater speed and accuracy.

Robotic technology is one way that advancements in nursing technology are revolutionizing patient care. The IntelliFill i.v. robot, by ForHealth Technologies Inc., provides benefits for both nurses and patients. Using automated i.v. medication preparation and a sterile interior, the IntelliFill i.v. robot helps to maximize patient safety by reducing medication mistakes and contamination due to human error. The IntelliFill i.v. is accurate but easy to use. Nurses are able to save time because of its simple storing and assembly system. The IntelliFill i.v. also reduces the number of doses that nurses are required to prepare.

Another advancement in nursing technology is bar code technology. This technology enables nurses to scan medication bar codes electronically before administering them to patients. When used in lieu of verbal or written communication regarding medication, errors that result from medications with similar names are significantly reduced.

New nursing technology will soon also benefit patients outside of medical facilities. Advanced nurse training technology is being developed and will be in nursing schools to help prepare nursing students for the rigors of the nursing field. Virtual ER, the creation of registered nurses John Miller and David Bodily, is a virtual 3D training program designed to simulate nursing situations. Such programs can help nursing students acquire interactive training that will help them in real world situations.

New nursing technology continues to emerge. In order to effectively utilize this technology, nurses must stay abreast of new technological developments. Many facilities purchase advanced equipment to provide on-the-job training for their nurses. In addition, many nursing programs also offer nursing technology courses.

Nurses who need to brush up their technology skills are encouraged to take continuing education courses to learn how to effectively operate the latest technology.

How to Create a Career Working from Home

July 1st, 2009

More and more people are turning to self-employment for various reasons and working from home is an option that many people are seeking. Family is typically the primary reason for switching to a work-at-home lifestyle. Stress, a miserable job, or other work related factors can lead to someone wanting to start a career working from home.

The benefits of working from home are numerous, yet, most people have no idea how to go about doing it. Below will outline some of the many ways that you can transition from a full-time job to working from home.

1. Freelance Work - You can begin freelancing in your off time. Starting part-time is a great way to figure out if freelancing is right for you. You can make all of the arrangements and begin getting the word out about your new business. Freelancing is probably one of the easiest ways to transition to self-employment. However, if you don’t like your current career, doing the same thing as a freelancer may not be much different in terms of career satisfaction.

2. Selling Online - There are so many ways to get started selling online. Often times you don’t even need to have your own products to sell. Marketing other people’s products for commission is known as affiliate marketing. You can sell your own products by purchasing inventory or creating your own products. One of the easiest and low-cost products to sell online are information products. Information products can be sold as PDF’s, audio, or video depending on the item.

3. Network Marketing - Another low-cost way to start your own business, network marketing (or MLM) allows almost anyone to be a business owner for usually under $200. There are so many products and services that are run as network marketing companies that you should be able to find something you like. These types of businesses can be run from home and grow as slowly or quickly as you want.

Keep in mind that any of the methods above require hard work and dedication. However, once you have established your new career, the freedom and flexibility that you have will be worth all of the hard work.
