If you are a foreigner, you need to find an employer in the USA who will sponsor you.
There are two types of work visa:
- temporary work visa such as H1B visa where you will be allowed to work in the US for a predefined period of time (in the case of H1B, 3 years that can be extended for another 3 years)
- employment immigration which leads to permanent residency or green card, but process is much longer and tougher as you will often need Department of Labor certification first
Whatever work visa you get, you need one thing: EMPLOYER who will sponsor you. Find that US employer willing to sponsor you and then you can come to work in the US
